Whitby and Surrounding Area
Whitby has the superb 13th Century Abbey standing proudly upon the East Cliff, just waiting for you to discover it's history and to take in the magnificent views of the West Side of Whitby. The Old East Side with it's cobbled streets which are steeped in history but also offer shops and restaurants for you to try. Cross over the Old Swing Bridge to the West Side of town which is home to the still functional fish quay, amusement arcades, funfair, restaurants, bars, fish and chip shops. Walk down the pier and catch a glimpse of the tour and charter boats entering or leaving Whitby harbour and on a clear day and when the tide is out you will see the long stretch of golden sands all the way to Sandsend. Down in the harbour is the HM Bark Endeavour replica for you to investigate and adds to the backdrop of Whitby Harbour and not forgetting the bronze statue of Captain Cook perched high on Whitby's West Cliff next to Whitby's famous Whale Bone Arch.

Whitby, On the Beautiful North Yorkshire Coast
Whitby overlooks the North Sea but not far away is the beautiful and cascading North Yorkshire Moors and Dalby Forest which has some excellent walks and trails that you can either do by foot or by bike and take in the scenery. Pickering is the official gateway to the North Yorkshire Moors National Park and is a historic market town. It is also home to England's largest steam railway line, so jump on board and take in the spectacular countryside in style.
Scarborough is a 30 minute drive away and is divided into two bays with a rocky headland which has the historic Scarborough Castle ruins on top. Scarborough has amazing beaches and along them you will find a wide selection of restaurant's, cafe's, bars, shops, amusements and a large fun fair. Further along the coast is Filey is a traditional Edwardian seaside resort with 5 miles of golden beach and a nature trail along Filey Brigg.
An hours drive away from Whitby is one of the most beautiful cities in the North - York. York is the ideal place for the sightseeing enthusiast and shopaholic a like. Steeped in history, this beautifully preserved medieval city is a must see. Take a stroll down by the River Ouse or jump on one of the many river cruises whilst relaxing with a drink and see York from the water. Visit the Yorkshire Museum which has plenty to see and do and also home to the famous jail cell of Dick Turpin. Take in the hustle and bustle of the busy cobbled streets with it's street performers and people going about their everyday activities alongside the gothic cathedral York Minster, makes York a very unique City to visit and you will not be disappointed.
